IMPERMANENCE – AN INNER JOURNEY
2019 I Nicolas Jouhet
Making this film led me to travel to many holy places in Asia. But it is not this trip that I wanted to tell here, but an inner journey through the progressive understanding of impermanence. This leads us to realize that everything is linked, that we are all connected. This understanding can come with meditation, but also through the contemplation of nature. How can we not feel united to the whole universe when one immerses oneself in a starry sky?
As this knowledge takes root in us, we act with greater kindness for ourselves, others, and the planet.
The time lapse makes it possible to contract the time, it is the ideal technique to turn into pictures the impermanence.
This film was shot in Thailand, China, Burma, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India (Ladakh) and Cambodia.

A Time Lapse shot from the fantastic Chaloem Phrakiat temple in Lampang, 100km from Chiang Mai in Thailand. It was the day after the peak of the Geminids meteor shower, we can still see some shooting stars even if there were much more the day before but I was unfortunately in the fog all night. In this Timelapse we also see deep sky objects like the Andromeda galaxy and the Orion constellation. It was also the moment when the comet 46P/wirtanen, in green, was near the cluster of pleiads. A beautiful sunrise concludes this Time Lapse in this temple perched in the mountains of northern Thailand.

SUPER BLUE BLOOD MOON ECLIPSE
2018 I Nicolas Jouhet
A time lapse shot in January 2018 in Chiang Mai, Thailand that I had abandoned because of technical problems. After months I finally edit it and I don’t regret the time spent on it. I thought I’d do better for the July eclipse but the clouds didn’t give me the opportunity to see it.

Unique appointment, or maybe 2 or 3 times a year?
The ideal place is determined to a few meters for such a framing. And the ideal day is linked to the settings to capture the Earthshine Moon. Thanks to a good weather to achieve this time lapse carefully prepared.

BEHIND THE CLOUDS
2015 I Dominique Joubert – Nicolas Jouhet
Mid June 2015, the milky way is rising over the Mont-Blanc. For months we have been waiting to make a timelapse staring the milky way above the Mont Blanc.
For such a timelapse, the perfect place is the Chéserys lake located within the “Aiguilles rouges” facing the Mont Blanc.
After a 2 hours walk, once arrived there, when we met many others photographers we knew we were at the spot.
The atmosphere is for the suspense bound to the presence of the clouds preventing us to plan our framing.
Our optimism will be rewarded. While our DSLR already make hundreds of shots following the ballet of clouds which will introduce our timelapse, the Mont Blanc chain from the “Aiguille Verte” to the “Aiguille du Gouter” appears at the best time to be magnified with the sunset lights.
It is the new moon, allowing us despite the solstice to benefit from 3 deep night hours enhancing the milky way within our timelapse.
Here we go, the clouds began to start again their ballet. Some milky way-split clouds are perfect for the timelapse.
While the sunrise is coming, a garland of lights crosses the Mont Blanc edge. The alpinists are on the way, what a bonus for our timelapse.

FROM EARTH TO MILKY WAY
2015 I Dominique Joubert – Nicolas Jouhet
The plateau of Emparis, the black lake, the Meije an ideal spot to make a successful timelapse.
We needed 2 complete nights to realize the sequences of this timelapse. A touch of clouds, not too much to let the Meije to parry beautiful colors at sunset, wait the breeze to fade so that the lake reflects stars and the Milky Way.
This timelapse was realized during the new moons of July and August, very attractive periods, it is necessary to accept some lights of the other observers, and those of the ballets of the snow groomers of the summer ski in the 2 Alps resort .
We do not dare to count the number of photos, thousands…

AUTUMN DANCE
2015 I Dominique Joubert – Nicolas Jouhet
Clouds dance over the Chamonix needles, the Milky way dance between Mont Blanc and Red needles, Moon dance over the Grépon as well. Exceptional promontory withe the Aiguillette des Posettes at the bottom of the Chamonix valley. A lot of motivation to get up there and then back down at night to go shoot the moon very early morning from the Gaillands site in Chamonix.
